宋翊鎬教授长期致力于智能信号检测理论、统计信号处理和智能无线移动通信等领域的基础与前沿研究，首次将广义观测模型引入信号检测领域，并在车载通信领域取得重大应用突破，是国际公认的智能通信与信号处理专家。基于此，宋翊鎬教授是至今唯一荣获英国工程技术学会（IET）成就奖的韩国科学家，也是少数荣获韩国通信学会（KICS）五项学术奖的韩国科学家之一。曾获韩国青年科学家奖、曾任韩国国家实验室负责人。至今，已出版专著10余部，在IEEE Tr. Vehic. Techn.、IEEE Tr. Signal Process.等期刊发表学术论文150余篇，发表会议论文140余篇，申请并获批国际专利5项、韩国专利26项。主持韩国科学与工程基金会（KOSEF）、韩国国家研究基金会（NRF）等机构的科研项目15项，累计科研经费超40亿韩元。累计培养学生百余人。
Professor Iickho Song (宋翊鎬) has long been engaged in fundamental and frontier research in the areas of communications and signal processing including detection theory, statistical signal processing, and wireless and mobile communications. He pioneered the introduction of the generalized observation model into signal detection and has achieved major application breakthroughs in vehicular communications. He is to date the only Korean scientist to have received the Achievement Award from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and is also one of the few scientists who have received five academic awards from the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS). He has authored 6 monographs and published over 150 journal papers in reputable journals including IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. He has filed and been granted 5 international patents and 26 Korean patents. He has led 15 research projects funded by agencies such as the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) and has successfully supervised over 60 PhD/MSE students in total.
